Do you know, you have all put me at ease about this, because I can't find a birth for a Matilda.

To be honest I'm a bit flummoxed.
A chap writing a book about his father found my tree on Ancestry,I had included his line who are cousins to mine, because I have a missing person and was hoping he would turn up with them.No such luck.
Any how,he has sent me a photo and asked if I new who the children could be,so using my tree and the bmd records I have for the family I have been trying hard name them all.
This family has been quite difficult. It's a doctors family,he had loads of kids, but a lot of them died, even up to the age of twenty.
I've been thinking may be he was practising on them!

Thanks for the input.
I do have one child with the middle name of Tilly.Victoria Matilda Green.
So may be might get some where.

Thanks again
Blue

As Blue has said Tilly is the most common form for the shortening of Matilda.

But she could just as easily be 'nicknamed' TIlly.

Mum known all her life as Rita - I was 14 before I found out that was not her name. Her read name was Julia Teresa - no idea where Rita came from, just what everyone called her.

Problem is, it might be totally different - or relate to a middle name, which was a very common thing to do in the past. For example, my Aunt is called Molly - a diminutive of her middle name, Mary! Her first name is actually Winifred. So just be aware.

I don't have a child named Matilda but that name is in the family I'm researching at the moment. So looks like I shall have to search for a Matilda

Hi
does any one have any idea of what the pet name of Tilly could be please.
I have a photo that I'm trying to age via the clothing,I'm thinking it might be the 1860's
It shows a group of children and a couple of young woman.
On the back it says Aunt Tilly with the spade and in the picture is a little girl holding a little spade she looks to be about 5/6 yrs old.

Any input about this would be really helpfull

Thanks
