Hi Maureen

Thank you so much for your reply. You have given me information I have not got. I have messaged Brian but as yet no reply.

If you do come across anything else would be most grateful.

Thanks again.

Hi

Looks like the parents of Madeline Hadde were
Julliette Alexandrine Eugennie Hadde who was born in Feb 1895 in Saint Quentin du Pres,Gourney-en-Bray Frane. She was daughter of Alfred Albert Hadde and Eugenie Langlois.

Julliette b 1895 died 1972 Musgrove Hosp.Taunton Somerset. she was married to a Harry Andrews. One daughter was

Madeline married Leonard Strickland in 1935 and divorced in Aug 1954.

There is a tree on Ancestry with this on, the owner is a Brian Rickards b 1951c his mother was a sister of Madeline or perhaps half sister, there appears to be many children. If you are not a member i could contact him and ask if he would share information via email.

Hi, was hoping to find an emigration record on FMP, but no luck - however, I did stumble across this marriage:

Marriages Mar 1955
Wincanton 7c 810

Surname First name(s) Spouse
CAMES Josef STRICKLAND <<<
CARNES Josef STRICKLAND <<<
STRANGE Lorna J TALBOTT
STRICKLAND Madeleine CAMES <<<
TALBOTT Roland J STRANGE

- perhaps worth ordering this certificate as well?

Wow Ivy. Both entries seem to be a possibility. Thanks.

Hi everyone

Have just ordered MC so hopefully that will help with relatives names etc.

Not in touch with any aunties or uncles etc. a lot of died now I believe. Family details on the Strickland side are very limited as the children were separated and sent to live in various homes etc.

Thanks again all that have replied for your help and input. Much appreciated as I am at a loss where to look next. It seems that a lot of money is needed to view a lot of information on various websites.

There are very few UK census entries for Hadde to give an idea of the origin of the surname.

There is a Madeleine Hadde born approx 1891 living in Surrey in 1911 (age 20, single) - the entry states she was born in Calais and is French.

The other Hadde entry for the 1911 census shown on Ancestry was born in Germany, but the handwritten entry perhaps suggests that the second letter of the surname should be u not a?

There is something very odd about the Ancestry listings for marriages in England and Wales between 1916 and 2005; aside from the Strickland 1935 marriage, all other nine entries take place in different parts of the country in the Jul-Sep 1959 quarter - can anyone else reproduce this oddity by searching for Hadde marriages?

I was really looking to locate an Andrews-Hadde marriage, since aside from the eight births from 1936 to 1953 to Strickland-Hadde in Somerset/Devon, there are also eight Andrews-Hadde births from 1922 to 1936, initially in the Shipston (Warwickshire) area, but then moving south until ending up in Taunton in 1936.

The last Stickland/Hadde births, assuming the same parents, was in 1953.

Unfortunately, there are no Cross Channel passenger lists available, assuming she went to the Continent, and with out the name of her new partner, it's going to be difficult to track down.

Did your grandfather divorced her? Although the survival of Divorce records is limited, you could look at the this link

In your PM, you said you were looking for births around 1915. Do your Aunts/Uncles etc have any idea where she was born? If you have her MC already, does her father's name 'suggest' a Country?

The marriage cert, if you don't have it already, will give the names of the fathers if known.

You will need this reference, found on Freebmd.org.uk to order it

Marriages Sep 1935 (>99%)
Strickland Leonard W Hadde Taunton Volume 5c Page 688

ONLY order from

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It will cost you £9.25 inc P&P.

Hi Everyone

I am looking for someone called Madeleine Hadde. I am unsure as to where she was born etc. all I know for sure is that she married my grandfather (Leonard Strickland) in Taunton, UK, in 1935.

I am not sure how long they were together, however must have been for a reasonable amount of time as they had quite a few children before she left with a German man. I believe she left the country with him but am not sure as to where etc.

If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks.

Regards.

There are passenger lists on Ancestry that we can check if you give us a name.

A copy of the marriage certificate should hopefully show the couple's father's names and occupations, which might help.

Roughly when did they come to the UK?

I am very new to this and was wondering if anyone could advise me on where to look for someone who was born outside of the Uk, came to Uk and married, and left Uk and married someone else.

I have nothing but a name and date of marriage to go on as well.

Hope someone can help.
