Hi
I have an 1841 marriage certificate which shows the brides age as 25 but shows the groom is "of full age". Does anyone know what is likely to be his minimum age?
(neither had been married before)
Thanks in advance
Christine

full age was 21 and over ,why they show differently is odd as usually at that time they showed as full age or minor which was under 21

If he is of full age then he is at least 21.

I find it odd that they would have the bride as 25 years old and the groom as of full age,

Question; Why are they both not listed as of full age?

may be worth finding them on later census's

my suspicious mind? would be thinking that their may be a large age gap between them and the of full age was to mask/hide the age differential

Hi

The bride was born 29 Oct 1816 and (if I have the right man......) the groom 28 Feb 1809 so there was around 7 1/2 years between them.
I am pretty sure I have the right groom but was curious as to what would be the minimum age for "of full age"
Thanks again

Just a thought although he may be listed as a bachelor, he could have been married before.

Hence the 'hiding' if his real age.

What do you know about him prior to this marriage?

I'm with Porkie Pie on this one...why not just state the actual age? I'll use this when ladies ask me how old I am in future. LOL.
