could this be the same George Mitchell in 1901 ? The reason for the question marks is the original is cut off at the side, so place of birth not there
1901

also on the census with other seaman is

Thank you Choccy, Yes thats him on the probate list with wife Arabella. I am having a hard time getting the correct death cert for him.
I havent had a positive ID on any census for him before his marriage or after. But my George did die 15th Feb 1895 , I have a death cert for the George I think thats in the above sailors home in Canning Place who has birth in France, but he died 23rd Jan 1895 and had a workhouse burial, so thats not him. I dont know where my G Grandad George was born because all I have so far is his marriage cert to Arabella and that doesnt say where he was born ! I just know his father was also George and he was a Farmer... I apologise for the confusion with the two threads running, I will make sure it doesnt happen again. Also sorry about the delay in replying but I was rushing out to go to work. Many thanks... J.

This seems the most likely death as the age seems to fit:-
Name: MITCHELL, George Registration district: Liverpool County: Lancashire Year of registration: 1895 Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Age at death: 50 Volume no: 8B Page no: 100
Is this one of the certificates you have already bought?

Hi Kath.... I have sent for that one today... BUT .. I think that George Mitchell is a Upholsterer born in Scotland.... I am hoping its not...! Sooooo many blinkin Georges in Liverpool at that time... seemed to be all dying together... ! On Ancestry the George I posted about is not on their 1891 census..?? When ordering certs on GRO there seems to be no provision for me to put the actual date of death in. Or anywhere to write an explanation... so fingers crossed this time... J.

If you are using the information from the probate calender as your proof of date of death then you have to allow for the fact that there are always the chance of mistakes on any written record.

Oh gosh .. I hope not Kath .. its all I've got to go on. Its just I cant understand why (if its him) why he would be living in the sailors home, he seemed to have plenty of money to leave his wife, and his M in Law owned a lodging house. The George in the sailors home died from Chronic Nephritis and was given a paupers burial...!! Gosh I am getting confused again... I have been looking on and off for this ancestor for many many years now. I need a new lead. The Probate one seems my only hope.... If one goes into the Liverpool Libraries can they look up the exact date of death that I have and find him. ???? Wish I wasnt so far away... J. :-(
