Divorce records from the Nat. archives

I have located a divorce record on The National Archives for 1880.for my Gt grand uncle John Gervase Tinley who married Jane Barr in 1873 in Nottingham

Just wondered if its worth spending my money to buy the record, has anyone else actually sent for a divorce record from the NA, and was it worth it.

I am curious though, having spent a lot of time over the past 18 months, as i could not find them as a couple on the 1881 census, now i know why.

The daft thing is i had never looked at divorce records after reading many times that divorces were only for the rich in that era, mine were certainly not rich

Hope someone can help

George

Please note i have all other records, census, marriages, births etc etc

I also found two on there but didn't send for them as both the entries named the other person involved and the date. Just used this info to search further

Hello Wendy

Thanks for your reply, I'm beginning think the same as you, and yes i have the name of the other person involved plus i don't even know the cost, and if it would be worth it.

Hi George,

I think I've managed to PM you a short article about the divorce from:
A BRADFORD DIVORCE CASE .
The Leeds Mercury (Leeds, England), Monday, August 2, 1880; Issue 13202

Fingers crossed!

Hi Maureen

Wow that info is brilliant, it matches all that i know. The Sinscoe chap is named on the divorce record, i had doubts about his age on the marriage cert. i have, but that info confirms it.

I cant thank you enough for finding that for me, very much appreciated.

Now to find out what happened to Jane & her boyfriend

Regards

George :-D

Just quickly jumping in George.

I'm afraid that I cannot offer any assistance on the divorce matter but just wanted to say how nice it is to still see you on the boards.

How are you and how is your sight these days?

Hello Jonesey

Thank you for your message, yes I'm fine at the moment, the problem i had with my eyes has largely been resolved, although still on pills and potions, plus i am limited to how long i spend on the computer and watching tv.

But going back to when i was first diagnosed, it certainly seemed a major problem but with all the help and treatment i have received over the past 6months, just to do it bits at a time is a bonus.

George

PM sent as well

Re the NA divorce records. I have never purchased one but I have seen a record that someone else purchased and it was very detailed. I think it cost her about £8 via download. You can ask for an estimated price from the NA with no commitment to purchase

Hi RutlandBelle

Many thanks for your reply, i think curiosity will get the better of me, i will see what they are going to charge and take it from there.
