hello
i was wondering if any kind person who has access to the ancestry records (i no longer have a subscription )
im after a look up for any service or pension records for a william lewis royal welsh fusiliers his victory medal has the service number 3447 , i have down loaded his medal index card from the na and it gives a further 2 service numbers 12789 and 203389 .
he may have been born or lived in holyhead anglesey north wales ,
so any help would be much appreciated

no sorry ,all i have is a name and service number and his regiment ,i know its a long shot

Hello Leonard

Sorry but i cant see any pension or service record for him on ancestry.

Over 70% of these records were destroyed in WW2, so its probable his were amongst those that were lost.

I know you have his medal card, just posting for ref.

awwwwwwwwwwww thanks ann ,but alas his service number is different ,
my william lewis had his original number of 3447 then during renumbering had 12789 then 203389.

It's a good job Leonard, he has a charge sheet as long as your arm!

So 3447 was his enlistment number, did he then enter WW1 from the reserves?

i have no idea ann , i came by his victory medal in a local carboot sale and was hoping to try and find out more about him and with him been royal welsh fusilier was wondering if he was from my hometown (holyhead)

Had another look around but no go, there are several from N.Wales in the Royal Welsh, but no match for any of your numbers, what a shame.

Holyhead......it is a small world I live near Mold :-D
