The latest edition of "Tracing Your Scottish Ancestry" Sixth Edition by Tristram Clarke contains not a few sneaky smiles...for example in describing the 1911 Census he notes "For the first time people were obliged to declare if they were totally deaf or totally blind, though not everyone responded" Later he says "Some of the records are closed to public access....the disclosure of which would be likely to cause substantial damage or distress...this affects many criminal records..... and also some modern government records.
