I have come to abit of standstill and would appreciate any help.

My maternal grandmother is Mary Jane Mcquillan who married Peter Cullen in 1925 in Sunderland. I cannot seem to find her on any census or birth records. I would like to know who her parents are. I have a feeling that they may be North East based or possibly came over from Ireland.

Thanks, Vickie

This looks like the Southwick one that Thelma found but you need the marriage cert with her father's name and her age

Until you purchase the marriage cert, you can only guess about when she was born...........

.......unless you know when she died?

There is someone with the above Mary Jane McQuillan in their tree - might be worth contacting them. Use 'search trees' above.

Hi Reggie

I did find her death as 1946 in Newcastle. I am using the search engines on GR and googling as well. One of the posts above seems accurate its just the surname is "Mcguillan" on one of the posts from earlier which i suppose could look like "Mcquillan when wrote on a cemsus form. I would like her mothers maiden name. My mother who is Mary Jane Mcquillans daughter has Dementia so i cant ask her for any info regarding her family, plus she was made an orphan at 7 and was sent to live with relatives in Sunderland.

Use freebmd - not GR - for bmd research from 1837 to approx 1950

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

You can see from 1911 that they say they have been married for 13 years, so the marriage (if it took place in England) will be easy to pinpoint.

In the search boxes on freebmd, enter his names - and her forename - and click 'find'

The 1911 census info is probably just mis-transcribed.

Bear in mind that the transcribers have had to deal with what may often be poor writing, or blurred images etc etc. And, as people didn't always know how their names should be spelled, the enumerator recorded what he 'heard'.

However, having checked the image for 1911, I can see no excuse for the FMP transcriber's erroneous recording of the name. Have advised them of the need to amend the record.

Also, in 1911, they state that there have been 6 children born during the marriage - 3 of whom have died.

If they didn't marry in Co Durham, the only way to find MMN will be to obtain Mary's birth cert
