Ancestry's UK Poll and Electoral Lists

Hi,
Is anyone else having trouble with the above file on Ancestry?

I can select the person I want to find out more about but not get onto the detailed page as the programme cannot display the page and then keeps sending the message around in a loop.

Is it me or is it them?

Do you mean this database

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1847-1965

No problems with that one at the moment

Oops I presume you mean this one

UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893

Did not know that was available

But tried it out and it is working okay for me

Perhaps it is just the record you are trying to view that is the problem

Who were you trying to look at?

If you give details, we can check. At least then you will know if the problem is at your end, or theirs.

Hi Glitter Baby & DetEcTive,

Thanks for replying and trying out the UK Poll Books etc for me.

It looks as though it is me as I tried several entries and got the same result.

The one I was particularly interested in is my 3 x great grandfather William GARDENER and the 1830 entry for Bristol St Thomas.. He was buried at St Thomas in 1839 and I just cannot move backwards on his roots, and am looking for any clues to his parentage, so every little thing helps.

He was a hatter in Bath Street, St Thomas, Bristol. I have the Pigot directory for that year, so don't expect any further information, but I live in hope.

Many thanks for your interest.

Have you been able to view the record yet, or even any other unrelated one in the Collection?

Is it possible that your subscription level doesn't cover it???

It would be odd if this particular image was the only one you can't see as Choccy and I can :-0

Hi,

Thank you both for coming back to me with your suggestions.

I thought that was the only information that would be available for William Gardener but thanks for looking anyway.

I can't understand what is going on. I have a Premium subscription which still has 2 months to run, so that is not the problem. I can access all other original images I have tried, it is just the UK Poll Books that is causing the problem. The image starts to load and the green bar fills up to the end then the screen goes a dark grey and I get a prompt message (all in French) from Internet Explorer which states there is a problem with the site and gives the option to send an error message to them or to quit the screen. If I quit, the green bar fills up again and the process repeats itself for a few times before giving up altogether. I have sent the error message to IE but not sure that it was successful. We will have to wait and see.

At least I have the information relating to William Gardener now which is helpful, so thanks for that.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth

Try contacting Ancestry - they'll probably be as useful as a chocolate teapot, but might come up with some suggestions. It does sound as if its a computer/browser problem if you can view other collections.

Try selecting the page and then pressing CTRL F5 together.

Hi,

As you say about as useful as a chocolate teapot, hence the reason I posted my query on GR.

I tried the CTRL F5 and the only difference was the compatability button was highlighted and Ancesetry used that to load the image but it made no difference.

It must be problem with my computer/browser as I have just tried it on my laptop (rarely used as I can't get on with it) and voila! I could access the file.

At least the problem has been isolated and I can do something about it now.

Many thanks to those that have supported me with my problem.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth
