Can I get hold of my great uncles war records even if he didnt die in the war and how do I do that and what information will I get

It will cost you £30.00 and you can wait up to 10 months.

These records will tell you, when he was admitted and discharged from the army. His regiment, medical, conduct and some other related information.

Should you want to know where his regiment was based and any more detailed information this is usually kept in the Regimental Diaries. These are kept in 3 places.
1: The National Archives at Kew
2: The Imperial War Museum
3: In some exceptional cases not in either of the above but in the Regimental Archives or Museum.

Hope this helps. Also you will need proof of his death.
