Victoria -

That's an idea.

Thank you for suggesting, I will use that as a option if I do not get any info from here.

Have you thought of sending a photo copy to a Family history magazine.
They nearly all have experts on old photographs

Thanks for your replies.

I can give details of who I think this is but like I say I'm not sure.

The person I am thinking it is :

Charles James Johnson
Born 1871 in Deanshanger, Northants
Married in 1891 to Annie Maria Johnson (Johnson her maiden name too)
Died 1933.

Many thanks for your help.

Just to add, I have all census details , plus birth, marriage and death for him.

Squeaky

He looks quite a young man so there is every possibility that he went on to serve in the first world war.

As Shirley suggested, post his name and if possible birth details and I am sure there are members who will take up the challenge to find any surviving military records online.

Squeaky - try posting your pic on www.TalkingScot.com

The site is mainly for those who have Scottish Ancestors, but I'm sure the helpful people there will try to help.

It's a free site, but you have to register before you can post.

FMP has some old Army records

Thanks for your help with this Kath & Jan,

The pic does have a date on the back, we are not sure if its 1886 or 1896 but its fading rapidly !

I wonder if there is any way to look through any service records etc as I am not completely sure which of my ancestors this is.

I believe it's my 2 x great grandfather . Maybe with service records I may be able to find out!??

If you have a look here it gives cap badges. I think the badges on the collar look like the 12th Lancers badge:-

My hubby had a look and apart from Victorian couldn't say more!
Maybe, if nobody knows on here, you could try this:

I have an old picture of one of my ancestors - possibly my 2 x great grandfather.

He is wearing a red tunic type uniform and I was wondering if it indicates what military he served in maybe?

This is the picture :

Would appreciate any help.
