Here's another clue that shows they should have been in the Winchester district then:

I'm trying to find my 2xg grandfather in the 1881 census. I just can't seem to find him. He was born in Wonston, Hampshire n in 1953 so would be around 28 years old in 1881. He was married to Martha (Phillips) and I think by would have 1881 had a couple of children (Herbert and Horace). He appears in the 1891 census as a carter on the land living in Dummer W Kempshot with more children - Sidney, Florence (my g-grandmother), and Ada.
Can anyone throw some light on why he could be missing from the 1891 census - and where he could be.
