British Newspaper Archives can searched on this GR site up to 1949, articles to viewed in full by credits or subscription.

You could also go to the 'source' managed by Brightsolid, GR's holding company

Try searching the National Archive for Court Papers

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

If the crime was serious, they might be there. There may be a problem accessing the records if they are 'Closed'. It would depend upon the policy.

Your best bet would be the local newspapers of the time.

This trial would have been held at a time when most papers, especially locals, would have had a court correspondant who would record most trials in all their gory detail.

If a particularly notorious trial you could try the Newpaper Archives which are online (held in Colindale Nth. London). But once you have found the article you want you do have to pay to view/download.

Another place could be any Archives/Historical societies in Manchester.
