How can I find out about a family member supposedly born in Nairobi?

If they would be a British National then have a look here:-

If their parents were British citizens then the birth may have been recorded by the British Consulate in Nairobi. Details of the birth would then have been forwarded to the UK for entry into the appropriate index at the General Register Office.

GR (and other sites) hold Overseas Births 1761 - 2005, so if the birth was registered with the British Embassy, it might be on here.

There is also the possibility that s/he may have been an 'Army' registered birth if the father was in the Military, and included in the Military Births. They are on Findmypast 1761 - 2005, and 'might' also be on here.
