Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I've managed to trace the McComish/McOmish side of my family back to 1821 (when my great great great great grandfather was born) but I can't find any record of a birth or any information about his parents. If anyone is able to help, please feel free to get in touch.

Thanks
Leanne

The name of this person would be very helpful, along with some idea of where in the world we should be looking!

Jeanne,
Could you give some information as to names and places on here so that we can all help you?
Or you could delete this request and post a new one on the Find Ancestors board.
Thank-you.

Sorry folks, wee bit new to all this! The relative in question is James McComish, born 1821 in Dumfries, his wife was Jane McComish (nee McIlroy). Can't find any information regarding James' parents.

If you change your heading to include 'Scotland', then people with more information about Scottish sites can help you.
Have you applied for any certificates or accessed the online sites?
When did he marry his wife?

Leanne

Leanne Report 2 Aug 2012 21:58

It was roughly the 1840's when he got married, but they were married in Ireland and for the life of me, I can't find a certificate at all.

This past weekend, FamilySearch published a new database containing an index of Ireland civil registration including:

Births (1864-1958)
Marriages (1845-1958)
Deaths (1864-1958)

Civil Registration wasn't in force when they married.........assuming they married before the first child was born

Thank you very much rootgather. Sorry for the late reply, yes James did die in Scotland but sadly there's nothing on the death certificate regarding his mother which is extremely frustrating.

If James snr 1818c had younger siblings you may need to research one of them and get any death certificates if they died in Scotland and hope the parents names are listed..
