Thanks mgnv. Uncle Charles is missing from Lovells during the war years hence my thoughts that he may have served. I will persue a service record once I have more details. :-)

An overwhelming majority of Canadian residents chose to serve with the Canadian forces, rather than returning to the UK to serve in the British forces. Quite understandable, when you think they'ld only get 25% of the pay with the Brits compared with what they'ld get with the Canadians.
Assuming he's been dead for 20y, you can apply for his service record - see:

It seems you don't know if he served - why not see if you can find him living in Montreal throughout the war:

Does anyone know how/where I can find out whether my Scottish Uncle (living in Montreal in the 30-40s) served with the Canadian forces in WWII?
Or would he have been recalled to Scotland to enlist there?
I am aware that there were Scots who served with the Canadians but I don't know where to start looking.
Any help/advice/guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Loolah
