I've just ordered my grandmother Alice Clarke's marriage certificate. Alice (1879-1956) married my grandfather Henry John Potten on 12th April 1909.
I know absolutely nothing definite about my grandmothers family, apart from her father was deceased at the time of the wedding and was a farmer named George Clarke.
I found a family on freecen registered in 1891 as living in Sandy Gate farm at St Thonas Devon.
There is a George S Clarke aged 52 born devon Aylesbeare Devon and his wife Agnes aged 57 born Devon - Broad Clyst(Originally: Devon - Broadclist) and 3 children George Chas Clarke Son S M 18 Farmers Son(Em'ee) Devon - Aylesbeare, Alice Clarke Dau - F 12 Scholar Devon - Aylesbeare presumedly my grandmother and William Clarke Son - M 10 Scholar Devon - Heavitree. I think these are my relatives but am not entirely certain.
On my grandmother and grandfathers wedding certificate the wedding was witnessed by a Frederick William Clarke and Kate Clarke not sure of the relationship with my grandmother, brother and wife?
any help would be much appreciated.
