He may not have been reg at birth .it wasn't compulsory till 1875 when it became an offence with a fine for non or late registration

Helen There are number of Charles Carters listed on Census for Shoreditch (Hoxton Old Town) who may be your man...I dont have access to census but you can see them listed in the GR Search.

There is a death for an Elizabeth 14 1884 Strand 1b 420 If this is our Eliza it would allow Elizabeth Mary bn 1887
