You look for a marriage of Benjamin Wicks to Emily Ada.
You know thre approximate year for marriage from age of oldest child, and you know approximate area from birthplace of oldest child, and birth place of parents.

Added:
Possibly 1895, or are we looking at a different time period?

I do like Emily Ada's surname.

Ok..

For example, I have found some of the females by looking up the mae names on the census, so I know that they were married, and the names of the children etc, but then my trail stops for the wife as I don't know her maiden name to continue that line..

It gets complicated as my mother was brought up by her paternal uncle and his wife (my grandma as i knew her) as her own mother died when my mother was 4 years old.)

So I hve gone to my Grandma's line who I know was maiden name of WICKS in Pontypridd S Wales..
And I have found her parents were called Benjamin & Emily Ada on a census

Where do I go now..? :)

The TV programme WDYTYA makes it look too easy ;-)

As Reggie says, give an example and we can talk you through it. We may have databases available which you don't, or can point you in the direction of free sites :-)

Oh sorry, I have only been at this a very short time, I realise now I will hve to go and buy some certificates to check the maiden names..

I am looking for family in England and Wales only at the moment.

This is harder than I thought!

Are you buying birth and marriage certificates, to check you have the correct people, and to reveal the female maiden names?

Added:
I was assuming England and Wales family, is this so, or elsewhere?
Thank-you

I have only just started this journey, and have been enjoying going back to at least 1857 on my paternal side, but I have trouble following the female lines, as I cannot always fi nd the maiden names successfully..

Any tips on this?

Thanks.
