Military Search for Matthew C Hillary WW1

AllisonWhitlam1974 Report 19 Aug 2012 22:58

I am wondering if it would be possible for somebody to do a military search for me. It is for my great grandfather Matthew C Hillary, who died Nov 1917 aged 23, his service number was 750248, he was a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery.

This is all the information I know, I am wanting to find out where he died, he died on 30th Nov 1917 and was burried 3rd Dec 1917 so I am guessing he died in the uk.... also wanting to know the cause of death.

If there is any other information that is listed I would be really interested to know. He was born in Gateshead and lived in Gateshead, we have only last week found his grave in Saltwell Cemetary with a lovely CWWG headstone.

I would be really grateful for any help recieved. Thanks.

Thanks Lynski,

I am new to this..does theatre of war mean he died in the uk? Also any idea how I can find info as to how he died? would I have to obtain a death certificate do you think or would it be listed anywhere. Like I said I am new to this so I apologise if I sound an amateur :)

The death cert should give you the cause of death but if he died as a result of injuries caused during any military action then it will just say "died of wounds"

Thanks Roy, Yes I think it would be worth me getting the certificate. Also what is FMP....is that a website used to do searches? the info Lynski got was from there..

As it appears he died in the UK it would be worth getting the death cert

Roy why would you not use GR records. You are here everyday.

Some of their records are very good and I use as a preferred option :-D
