Could someone please tell me what it means when 'ter' is placed before the name of a town e.g.'Ter Bromsgrove'. Does it perhaps mean 'near'? I find it quite often when I am researching my family tree.

Is it part of the previous bit of the address? Ter is quite often put as abbreviation for terrace.

Yes, I thought about the word being short for terrace, but here below is a made up example from 'family search.org' where I've seen it many times.

Alfred Harbidge

Penny, are you using IE8? If so, putting it into compatibility mode will stop the white spaces when doing a c&p.

Next to the URL line is a little icon that looks like a torn piece of paper, if you click on that it turns blue - repeat for each tab that you have open.

An easier solution is to just click on COPY on the Family Search Page which is at the top right between MY SOURCE BOX and PRINT. Then simply use paste (CTRL V) in the GR submit box.

Kense - that's the easiest way to c&p but does it also counteract the white spaces IE8 causes? I've never used that.

It does on IE9, not sure about IE8.

If pasting into a word document the usual method (Select, CTRL C, CTRL V) works well, as it tabulates it.

I used to have IE8 and never had that problem but since getting new laptop with IE9 have had to click the icon thingy on every site I C&P from

For Anc..y records there is usually a "printer friendly" selection in the Page Tools on the left.

It is not on the original image.

It says Bromsgrove, Worcester but has been written with the t in Worcester looking like a captal T.

I think the transcriber has taken this as Worcs Ter (as MarieCeleste said above).

Dianne - I think the upshot is that if you see "ter" (or any other odd letters that look like part of the word before) anywhere on FamilySearch census transcriptions - just ignore them!
