I have just trashed another family story, and having spoken to another elderly cousin who knew granddad a little better than I did, it seems granddad like to spin "fairy stories". Although until I showed this cousin a copy of granddads enlistment papers, he would have sworn the story that granddad told was true.

I now have the task of researching granddads trip to Australia, yes he did go, but the story he told on his return !!!!!!!!!!!!.

Kathlyn - be careful not to start another thread here as we have already done a lot of work on him!! :-)

But yes, our ancestors lead us a right merry dance! That's why we always say take family stories with a pinch of salt!
