I want to find out why no parents not even a father were on John Lord's baptism in 1722 in Wanborough, Berkshire, England

'I want' is not a good start...........'please could you help' would be better

If the father wasn't known, he wouldn't be recorded, and mothers were considered irrelevant

Is this the record you are looking at? Sorry, not very good with the Wiltshire/Berkshire areas!

I'm sure that must be very unusual.

I've never come across a baptism with no parents given, with no explanation. e.g. a foundling...

Are both the mother's and father's names given on the other baptisms on the same page as your John Lord?

I realise this isn't Wanborough, but I wondered if it might be close enough to be a consideration.

Whereabouts did you find the baptism record that you have for Wanborough?

Andysmum Report 8 Sep 2012 11:08

According to my 1864 gazetteer, Wanborough is about 3 miles from Swindon, in Wiltshire, although it isn't very far from the Berkshire border. It also has its own parish church, St Andrew's, so perhaps that is the Baptism register that Wylde One has seen?

I apologise for getting the wrong place. It was Swindon, Wiltshire. Thanks you for your help. i will check the other baptisms on that page, Wylde One
