GR has just automatically renewed my membership and there is no way I can find to tell them I don't want it renewed. It is way too expensive for me at this time and I have gone about as far as I can with my tree. CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO CANCEL>...Thanks ! :-|

As you have now posted on the boards, I doubt whether they would refund you now

You could try help at the top of the screen and click on contact us

You need to go to your account which is also at the top of the screen and tick auto renew off

You obviously opted for automatic renewal when you set up your account.

They would not have renewed without notifying you by e-mail

No-one on here can help you.

You must contact GR

Even if you turn auto renew off...which I did this year.... as soon as you subscribe again it will revert back to auto renew on, so you need to keep an eye out

I do not have Auto re-new on, never had and apart from changing it when I first joined I have never had to change it again, it has always shown as being off.
EDIT; just checked and it's still off

GR does not always send an e-mail out......... I did not get an e-mail last time from GR, I contacted them when I realised that my sub had expired.

But I agree that you need to contact GR directly, but don't hold out much hope, a case earlier this year was refused as the person had used to site to make a posting similar to the post you have made.

Well I know that I have had mine off for the last two years (6 monthly sub) but after every time I pay it reverts back to auto renew on....I know I'm not the only one

I did conact GR and was unable to cancel my membership. They said they sent a reminder by email....I did not reeive one. I make a point of NEVER having automatic renewal on anything as you never know what your circumstances are going to be. I am really upset and unhappy about this situation. This is an expense I don't need at this time :-( I have gone about as far as I can go on my family tree and just can't see any justification for another year of membership. I have enjoyed all the wonderful members on this site and appreciate all te help they hae given to me, I would warn anone NEVER allow automatic renewal for Anything. ,you never know what your circumstnces are going to be at any given time and youcan always renew if it suits you're purpose.

You are saying it is an expense you can't afford, does that mean you have a higher than standard membership? If so contact them and ask if you can revert to standard, explain your financial problem and they just might refund the difference. So are they saying you did have auto renewal then?

Yes, I have a platinum membership. Thanks, I will see if they will reduce it to standard.

Like Jax ...................

I also have to continually check that Auto Renewal is off ................... it's been like that ever since I joined!

The default position seems to be Off ............ and it does revert back to that quite regularly.

Auto renewal is the default........you have to change it if you don't want it

You can cancel auto renew and it will stay cancelled BUT if you subsequently decide to pay for a further period your account will be changed to auto-renew. BEWARE.

From GR's Help Section....

Will you remind me when it is time to renew?

Yes, we’ll email you a couple of weeks before your subscription is due for renewal to remind you. You'll get an email to the address you registered with us and we’ll also send it to your Genes Reunited inbox. This email will have a handy link to the renewal page.
You can also renew by logging in to your account, then clicking on the ‘Subscribe’ link that you’ll find on your Genes Reunited homepage two weeks before your subscription is due.
You can change your membership package when you renew. And if you’ve opted for continuous renewal, we’ll still email you to remind you before the renewal payment is taken.

Cancelling automatic renewals

If you’ve chosen continuous renewal, then your subscription payment will be automatically taken from your card or PayPal account on your renewal date.
We will email you a couple of weeks beforehand to remind you. You'll get a renewal reminder email from us at the address you registered with on the site and also in your Genes Reunited inbox.
If you’d like to change this preference, then click here and go to the ‘Subscription Details’ link. Select the 'Auto Renew Off' option and remember to save the changes.

Well they didn't remind me in July when mine ran out, (I use to get emails) so I had to resort to renewing via email, I've always paid by cheque in the past as I prefer to do it that way. Don't think I'll be bothering next year this site has gone downhill over the past 12 months. :-(

i having second thoughts about renewing my membership, not because of the new tree. the records on here appear to be the worst records available and most of the membership seem inactive
