CuriousFish Report 12 Sep 2012 10:42

I cannot find my Edward Porter on the 1871 census.
On his marriage cert, (Dec 1873), address is 17 Hemsworth Street, Barking, Essex.
I have him on both the 1861 and 1881.
Can anyone out there look up an address for me n the 1881 census?
This is the address of both the bride and groom on Edwards marriage cert to Mary Ann Rison.
Wittnessed by Eliza Rison and what looks like Walter Fitch

People moved around a lot. Also it was often usual to put the same address for both parties to save putting banns in the other parties parish church too.

It was thought that to qualify for the 6 weeks residential requirement then all that was needed was a suitcase of clothes to be left at the house, usually the brides house, and this met the qualification. Wasn't true but may did it and the myth did go on for a long time

An Aha moment.
I read Oswald as Donald.
Well that will teach me to believe what has been transcribed rather than trying to deciper it myself.
Lesson learned there.
I have updated the entry on ancestry
Thanks so much, you help is apprecated immensly <3

It gets curioser. On the 1881 census along with Oswald is a John Harvey, born in suffolk. My Harveys are from there and Edward and Mary Anns daughter Florence Married a Harvey.
I wonder......

Brilliant.
By realising that the sibling was Oswald rather than Donald, funny how sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees, I now have their grandaparents names.
Well done again the Genes communty and Choccy and Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it in particular <3 <3 <3 <3
