Maybe if his mum was away in service he maybe wasnt born where you thought although his mums family lived in Ashton area.

My mum and her sisters lived in SE London but were in service in Berkshire and Hampshire in live in positions in the 1920,s

Thanks for your replies folks, I'll try and answer what I can.
William Edward Lee married to Agnes Skitt 1932
Mum used to talk about Grandma Bertha & an Aunt Polly, however, she wasn't sure which was actually his mum!!
I tried Lydia as I can't find anything else, but if the one from Cheadle died in 1921 it rules her out.
He married my Gran in Ashton, and as far as I know his family were all from around the area. My Gran was from Duckinfield and didn't travel far from there.
His mum was supposedly in service to a Jewish doctor when she got pregnant. My Gran couldn't remember if he was called Rosenthall or Rosenburg, but can't find any doctors in the locality either.
So sorry it's not much to go on. He was never talked about 'til just before Gran died, and at 83 she couldn't remember much. My mum and sisters were around 8 when he left so don't know much either. Can't even find an army record for him.
Thanks for your help
Bless you
Debbie

Hi there,
Does anyone know anything about William Edward Lee, born 1912 (possibly late 1911). Before she died my Gran told me that he was illegitimate, and thought his dad was called Rosenthall - a doctor, as his mum was in service. They were married in Ashton, but no fathers name on Marraige cert. My mum used to talk about having a grandma Bertha, which is my only other clue.
One of the witnesses at the wedding was a Lydia Lee. I've found her on the 1911 census living in Cheadle with a 20 yr old daughter called Bertha. Until the 1921 census comes out my only hope is a birth cert, but I can't find a registration for him anywhere from 1911 - 1913.
Does anyone have any ideas please. He walked out on the family just after the war, but nothing known of him after that.

Bless you
Debbie
