Some local indexes give age of death pre 1866, but unfortunately not here:

It does confirm these 4 deaths were recorded in Sedgley subdistrict, rather than Dudley, say. Again this is not helpful here.

Irene, The burials i posted are transcriptions taken from the Parish Register as Philip's burial details are the same as you have on his death cert? then that surly makes it correct, The one i posted for Mary 25 Aug 1832 could be yours also, You would need to locate the parish records to confirm the details as correct or mistranscribed, I think the records are held at the Dudley Archives

Hello,

a couple of those could be the 1839 & 1840 I found I'm not sure about the 1832 if she was 54 that would make her 11 years older than Philip? and i cannot get a cert to find out I have the microfiche for the graveyard of Christ Church but have not found Philip or Mary yet but if no headstone they will not be on fiche

Thank you all for your help I'll keep looking

Not sure if this will help you to decide or not.

I had a similar problem regarding a death cert. I used a process of elimination to narrow down the probable time period the death occurred. I was looking between late 1920s to early 1930s. I had a few potential certs.

I used a local RO thinking I had the correct year of death (doing a 1933 entry) - but when they looked the details I had provided did not agree with the cert/year I had requested (money was refunded).

I then had to look at an earlier year - but still wasn't confident - I used the GRO website - and again put the full name on the online form and the year 1928 - I was looking at two possible certs - one in 1928 and one (unlikely) in 1929. I wasn't sure as the 1928 one only had one first name, no middle name, the 1929 had the first name and the correct initial of the middle name.

I waited and then got a cert for a lady, with the correct first names - but they were the wrong way round, and the age at death was way out. Wrong cert, wrong reg district.

More in hope than anticipation, I completed the online complaints form at GRO (under contact section) advising they had sent the wrong cert, and explaining why (age, district, transposed names) and what I was expecting to see (year of birth, reg. district, husband's name).

I then received an email saying they had found a possible one (matching up the info I had included), said they would send it - and if that wasn't the correct one, to send it back (and the first one) and they would refund my money.

It came the next day - it was the 1928 one - which only had the first name and last name - no initial, the middle name was not provided by the informant. I was extremely pleased with the service.

As your Mary could be 1838, 1839 or 1840, and GRO search a year either side, it seems that the search will cover all of them. It just takes longer than when providing the GRO reference.

If she died before 1837 there will not be a death certificate.

Her son was born in 1824 so I have searched from 1824 to 1841 when she was not on the census and I have only come up with 4

Hello

The info I have is Mary Hyde nee Skitt b Abt 1791/1793she married Philip Hyde in 1808 on the 1841 census Philip was on his own so I'm assuming Mary died before the census I have Philip's death cert he died in 1842 aged 53 living in Highfields which at the time came under Sedgley Staffordshire his daughter in law was Sarah Hyde was named cert The four Mary's I have found are all in Sedgley 1 in1838, 1 in 1839 and 2 in 1840 so all could be possible The only child I have John b in 1824

Short of attaching a piece of paper and advising in the relevant box to look for the extra info, I can't think of anything else. Jill

If that is all you have you are going to struggle with this. Do you wish to give all details and people can have a crack at it? Obvious thing is to sort out if there is a middle initial.

Hello,

I would like to get the death cert for Mary Hyde the problem is I have found 4 possibles none have age on is there anyway to get cert without buying the 4? I emailed GRO and they said fill in as much detail as possible and the year I think it was and they will do a search 1 year either side of the date I give them , On the form there is no space to give any extra details ie:- name of spouse or children anyone any idea

Thank you

Mary
