I have found a x3great grandfather as a Surgeons Labourer. Can any one give me a clue Many thanks xx how to find out what that is? :-D

The man above has 'dom' under his name. I wonder if he is just something like a workman doing jobs at the surgeon's home, like a caretaker?

1851 John Gibbons Lincolnshire. Born 1813. With wife and family. Wondered if it was the surgeon we think of these days? Will go and Google as well .

Have you found him on census reports? His occupation on there might give a clue.
If he were directly involved with the work of a surgeon/barber surgeon or the like I think he would be called an assistant.

I think my guess above is probably right - he is a gardener 1861.

I had the similar thing with my 3x grandfather, it stated on his sons marriage certificate that he was Surgeon, which threw me initially, finally found he was Tree Surgeon come Gardener
