There's a book (out of print but I imagine available on Amazon) called "Orrible Murder" a history of Victorian newspaper articles about suicides, murders, cruelty and all sorts of creepy stuff. It's absolutely hilarious, especially the line drawings.

There's one about a guy who, when he was hanged, his head came off!

Maybe you can order it through your local library. Best laugh i've had in ages!
