If someone was born in a workhouse could they of married there??? I have traced a birth of a relative back to a work house, but cant find the marriage of his parents anywhere. I have no info on where other than the workhouse was west brom, that they could of married. I do pick them on census records much later on ...but just wondered?

A marriage in England or Wales had to take place in a building authorized for that purpose (still does), unless a special licence is issued. I can't even imagine that any workhouses were authorized buildings for marriage.

Often workhouses were also hospitals for the poor. It is not unusual to find children born in a workhouse but the mother didn't reside there. If you gave us some clue on names and dates we might be able to help.

Have you a baptism for the child ?

The babies born in the workhouse in my tree have been baptised in the workhouse very quickly after birth usually just the mothers name but not always

The workhouse in West Bromwich did indeed have an infirmary which treated the poor of the district. The infirmary went on to become Hallam Hospital, now known as Sandwell General Hospital. Some of the original workhouse buildings still exist on the site.
