I am tracing my paternal granmothers line
Her mane was Ada Durows born 1899 Birmingham
Her Perants were William Henry Durows 1873-1922 and Elizabeth White 1874- 1961
I have traced as far back as Williams father Francis William Durows 1852
And his Grandfather Henry Durows 1809
There have been many variatons of the spelling of the surname including Durows, Durose , DuRose and Douro.
My Fathers and Aunts both have differnt spelling for the mothers maiden name.
We believe there might have been a family rift as William francis left the family after 1891 census and his wife had not declared herself as a Widow. I have found a death entry for a William Francis in Bromsgrove but I am not sure if it is my William F
Also William Francis got married under the surname Douro
is there any way finding out what happened to William and or Henry?
I had a conversation in the late 70's with my Great Aunt Elizabeth and she told me the name was of French origin and was originally spelt Du Rose.
I hope I can get a new lead

Welcome to the Durose/Durows family research. My husband's mother was also a Durose and as you say the originated from France and probably Brittany. There is Durose family gathering each year in Staffordshire and this web site results for the group and may be of use. Difference in spelling of the name was common and they can be a nightmare to trace, but I will have a look

Sorry on reading back it should have been Francis William disapearinag and for the death in 1915 in bromsgrove.
Also henry was born in Staffordshire

He disapears on the 1901 census and there is a remark as Husband away.We are not sure if there had been a Falling out in the family.
I was contacted by a fellow researcher that Francis William went to an asylum, but I am yet to find records of this.

In Bromsgrove there was the Barnsley Hall Hospital which was at the time the County Lunatic Asylum.

Patients were only show by their intials, so they are more difficult to indentify.

The entry is confusing since the initials are given as DWF, although since it is listed alphabetically by the first initial, it seems that this should be interpreted as D., W.F.

Wikipedia says that Rubery Hill was commandeered as a military hospital during the First World War, so your suggestion that he may have died at the Bromsgrove Asylum would fit for a 1915 death if the patients were transferred there in 1914.

As rumour goes the child of Alice Myatt amy not have been Francis William Jnr 1875
But that of his father, Alice was a boarder in the 1901 cnesus and had a son Frederick in 1898...Francis snr had gone by the 1901 census, and Alice did not marry until 1904
