If a Will is unavailable there may be letters of administrations. When making your application ask for all related documents.

The cost is £6 - A point to note there is tick box option for a will or probate. I always tick both options because it doesn't cost any extra.

There may not be a will but the full probate document often has interesting information. It is so exciting reading some of the stuff.

My latest batch to arrive last week - dad, grandfather and greatgrandfather. A real eye opener. The wills were written years before the deaths so have completely different addresses.

It is quite normal for a Bank to be named as Executor, in the same way as Solicitors are often given the role.

Probate is not the end of the story. You can apply for the Will which may contain details of family members. An application can be made to this address:-

Thanks you, it says probate to District Bank and to another member of the family.

It means the bank was responsible to sort the assets/estate out just as a executor would to carry out the directions of the will

Edit, does it actualy say "probate left to the bank" or "probate granted to the bank"

Probate is just the legal authority granted to someone to act as an executor to the will, my mate had to apply for probate when his wife died and they had a joint will

Please could anyone tell me what it means when it says " probate left to the bank".

I have found a couple of these for my ancestors on the Probate and Wills Index on Ancestry. Does it just mean that that bank took all the money.
