hi all
have just followed a family that i wish to put on my tree
but i am alittle confused

frederick lacey born 1864/5 barrow upon soar leicestershire
ellen born wimeswold leicester 1865
john g 1884 barrow
frederick wm born 1887 barrow
that was the 1891 census

1901 census
frederick lacy
ellen
john g
fred w
william born 1899 barrow
1911 census
ellen lacey born 1865 wymeswold
frederick
william
john henry born 1904 barrow
4 children all 4 still alive
1911 census
frederick lacey 1864 barrow
with john george and his wife

why would they name to of there sons john when they are still living

Probably stating the obvious but have you found birth records as they both might have John as a middle name rather than a first name

in my tree my great grandmother was Mary Elizabeth and her sister was Mary Ann. Both appear on census together. At first I thought it was a mistake but I was wrong. They just liked the name Mary

My grandfather was first names William Patrick, his brother was Patrick William.

You can imagine the fun I've had trying to sort them out!

You might want to check out this website - really useful for B-u-S - has Frederick's christening 2/101864, along with Elizabeth (age 4) and William (2) being christened the same day.

Added: there's also a marriage for John George, 2/5/1907, which states his father Frederick is deceased - must have come back to life as he is clearly on the 1911 census ;-)
