Thanks DetEcTive, I hadn't heard of that one.

Thank you to you all for your suggestions!

FamilyHistorian- you can down load a 30 day trial version. Although slightly more expensive, I prefer to purchase the discs as it means that it can be loaded on any other computer.

There is a users forum with free add-ons to download, and where other users can give technical advice.

I have FTM 12 on PC's and love it. I never have a problem managing them all. In fact it's made my life so much easier.

Having said that I have read many items about people complaining about the sync feature not working or having a similar experience to Gai.

I guess I've just been lucky

Thanks for the tip Gai, good to know.

I just upgraded my Family Tree Maker to the Mac version and synced it to my online tree.

What a mistake. The sync feature messed up both my trees and even when I restored from a backup it screwed it up as well.

I tried every avenue suggested by Ancestry help to no avail. Not impressed at all and should have left well alone.

Thanks TootyFruity. I was wondering about Family Tree Maker too. They both sound good,

Legacy is a very good free program which we recommend on the Facebook genealogy page I manage with friends

I use family tree maker 2012 because it syncs with my ancestry tree. I've used earlier versions of this program for many years and have always been happy with it. It also gives free subs to ancestry

Hello all. Could I please ask what family tree programs you experienced researchers use? I want one where I can consolidate all my information and back it up, also attach docmuents, photos etc. Any suggestions?
