Hi Maddie

I've a quick look and nothing is coming up. Where did you find his baptism from?

I agree, a very unusual name, maybe mis-transcribed?

Sorry I couldn't help :-(

The record is from familysearch.

SuffolkVera Report 9 Aug 2013 17:16

I found it on Familysearch and think it may be a mis-transcription of the Latin version of the father's name, so you would probably need to see the original record to make sense of it.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 9 Aug 2013 17:22

Think it might be a mis-transcription of Gulielmi (Latinised version of William). There is a child Elena baptised in Swettenham in 1640 whose parents are Gulielmi and Anna

EDIT: Forgot to say the child being baptised was Elena DALE

I looked on IGI and couldn't find the birth for Johannis?

I'm so not liking that site these days

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 9 Aug 2013 18:42

I've heard a lot of people say they don't like IGI now but I haven't had problems with it. All I did was put surname Dale, clicked on birth and put in Swettenham as the place and 1646 as the date (Maddie had given us those) and Johannis was the first one on the list that came up.

I think SuffolkVera may well be right, there is this one born, if this child died they may have called a later son ( Johannis) by the same name?

I've now found several children born to this couple between 1631 and 1649. There is also a Guilielmi bp in 1612 and a Griffith bp 1616 who could possibly be the father and uncle of Johannis
