I always though Michael born 1822 in Nutfield, Surrey area married Mary Ann Davis in 1857 Chelsea but when I checked this does not seem correct.
Mary was living with parents in Enfield Middx in 1851 Census and Michael was a Butler in Hampshire in 1851. They had a son John born in Queen Street, London on 19 Feb 1858 mother's maiden name Davis.

I am not sure why I thought this marriage was the correct one - could they not be married or could it be missing as it was not that long after the 1837 Act came in.

Any help would be appreciated as I would like to send for the certificate.

Sorry I meant he was a Butler in 1851 yes the 1861 and 1871 Census are correct, I think they moved from Leatherhead to Enfield as her father was ill (she was born in Enfield).

His father's name was John who married a Susanna Cole on 6 Feb 1822 Burstow, Surrey. Michael was christened on 4 Aug 1822 at Nutfield, Surrey thought I would like to check on his marriage and suddenly realised that the one I thought was his was not.

Yes thanks I have the baptisms records except for John who as he was born in London could have been baptised at a number of different churches.

Thanks for all your help I just cannot understand why I cannot find a marriage for him.
