I have found a family on the electoral rolls for Ealing in 1946
Catherine A
John H

then their son who is John D...but who appears to be listed twice with numbers following each listing...does anyone know what they might mean?

John D BCDD 39/3
John D BCA/ 1889825

Thankyou

:-D

Still trying to work out the codes, but the 2 listings could be because there were 2 ER in 1946

"There were two registers a year in 1868 and in 1885, also between 1919 and 1926 (sometimes called the spring and autumn registers), and also two in 1945 and two in 1946. "

there were no elections from spring 1939 to spring 1946,,,,,,,WW2.....perhaps the first was because his usual address but been drafted into the forces?
1946,as a regular voter/or down as a BC/A=absent voter.?

I think Kay???? is on the right track. The BCDT number looks like a National Identity Card number and the BCA number is probably his service number.

I notice a similar entry for George Watt in Ealing East in 1946 on Ancestry image 7 for that constituency.

Sounds very feasible, thanks all. :-D
