Hi,

I am a relative beginner when it comes to family history.

I am researching trying to find my grandfathers parents who may or may not be alive, but to also find out if they had any further children.

My grandfather and his 2 siblings were placed in a children's home end of 1940's. His parents married when in early 20's in Norwich area, they separated sometime around 1940, put their children into care and then his mother remarried and moved to greater London.

After 1950 I cannot find either of them. I have found my grandfathers, grandfather, uncles, aunts, cousins and details of them such as birth and death years if relevant. I just cannot find anything on his parents.

For those more experience what would be the next viable step, I can't see how they just vanished, I have searched for his mother in her maiden name, 1st marriage and the last known marriage name and cannot find an electorol, death for her. I am really struggling and it would be great if someone could give me some advice on what I could do next.

I would be so grateful for any guidance,

from a very confused beginner!!

Thank you, I am looking for a Thomas Mitchell born 1913 - Portsmouth Hampshire and Rita Hickey unknown birth date or location (between 1917-1919) father is John Hickey.

Thomas Samuel Mitchell and Rita Hickey married in Norwich 1933 (I believe) and divorced. Rita Hickey remarried Andrew Dick 1950 and they lived in Greenford Middlesex.

As I say after her marriage I cannot find her wherabouts, nor can I find anything for Thomas Mitchell and to be honest I am not really sure where to look so I would be most grateful for advice on where to begin.

Thomas Mitchell was a royal gunner and I have the location of barracks and his number, but not sure if this would help me do any further searches on him and if so where I would look

Grateful for your time and advice

Thank you for your reply.

Thomas Mitchell - I have a birth certificate for him. I also know his father is John Samuel Mitchell and his wife who had several other children (uncannily the first or middle names of the the three generations are all very similar)

John Hickey I know is Rita Hickey's father as I have the marriage certificate for the marriage between Rita Hickey and Thomas Mitchell - which confirms father of Rita Hickey is a deceased farmer. On the marriage certificate for Rita Hickey and Andrew Dick - it confirms Rita Hickey is the divorced wife of Thomas Mitchell and her father is John Hickey deceased farmer.

I will make myself familiar with freebmd

Interesting re the third marriage. I also see a marriage in 1960's a Mr Terence G Presant to a Hickey in Norwich however I don't know if this is her. Maybe I will have purchase these certificates to find out.

Thank you

As you have the marriage cert..............why did you not know the correct year?

And......how old did Rita say she was?

Hi Reggie

I appreciate your help, this is most helpful.

My grandfather has a whole file of info and certificates I have so far found and put together, which is at his house (I am off there now), I need copies of these to keep at home. I did this a couple of years ago, stopped and have restarted so will now need the copies. I am pretty certain Rita's first marriage was 1933 from memory and because of the age given on the marriage certificate I could only work out her birth year approximate. She was a hospital maid and Norwich and Norfolk hospital.

It's pretty amazing really how you have been able to provide me with this info, I have been looking for weeks now. Simply I can't thank you enough

The marriage is posted above...............!

If you think she was born 1917-1919............she would hardly have been of age to marry in 1933

Thanks Reggie, first marriage to Thomas Mitchell was 01/05/1937 - she was 19 years

please excuse my ignorance as I am no expert, if someone died between 2006 and present - is there anyway of finding out?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Sep 2013 18:25

Only if any announcement was made in the local paper..................and that paper's records have been transcribed for the internet

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Sep 2013 18:27

This may be nothing to do with her, but................it would fit the age given on the marriage cert
