Hello can any one tell what own account means for some one in work house or prison i have a George Eccles b1872 Birmingham in 1901 census shows him as prisoner at All saints Birmingham with own account .Is this the prison as i recall it been big depressing place prison plus mental asylum in the 1960s 70s
No records of him in 1911 census .

'Own Account' means that he works for himself

He seems to have made a habit of offending

There is a long list of crimes...............and he pleaded guilty to being an habitual offender. 15 offences accounted for

Sentenced to 3 years' penal servitude, and 5 and a half years preventive detention

So, he'd be in prison in 1911

Possible marriage for him in 1891 to Margaret Burt or Selina Hood. (probably Margaret Burt after looking at the 1911 census where Margaret Eccles is a widow).

Dec. qtr. 1891, Birmingham, 6d, 264.
