Divorce in Australia in 1924

Hello

I ordered and received divorce records for my grandmother and her first husband (Clara Wilson - nee Reynolds and Leslie William Wilson - Divorce Number 0439 Sydney Australia).

The records I have are the petition to divorce filed by my grandmother - there is nothing which actually indicates the divorce went through- nil decree absolute or even a decree nisi. There is of course the divorce number in the NSW records!!

One of the remarks on the records indicate that the divorce had been listed in the 1923 index -Nos 0140 & 1515- no papers.

Would anyone with a better understanding of this be able to comment as to whether the divorce may have gone through?

I had tried Trove before - but nothing came up - I think I narrow down the search parameters too much.

Grandma has always said her first husband was a drunkard.

Have you thought about using the NSW 'Ask a Librarian' service? If they can't answer your question, they may be able to put you on to someone who does
