Help needed with tracing a relative born in 1733

Provided I have not made a giant cockup, I have traced my family tree to Richard Papps, who was born in Wiltshire about the year 1733.

The problem is that I have found a parish record of Richard's son getting married, which names Richard as his father. But I can not find any other record which refers to Richard at all.

Other than contact the church where his son got married, and hope they have some records from that time, is there anything else somebody can think of that I can try to find out my ancester? i.e. his parents, bothers / sisters etc

Fathers were not added to the marriage record until after 1837 when was this marriage?

If he was born 1733 then surely his son would of married long before 1837 when all that would be recorded was the Bride and grooms names whether they were spinster/batcholar/widowed...whether they were from that parish and witness's names

Richard (i.e. dad) was born in 1733, that is the only bit of information I had about him.
