Hi Guy's

Thanks for your input its very much appreciated.

rootgatherer = In answer to your question - No I'm not sure at all.

Andrew = In answer to your question - I've been to both Staffordshire and Sandwell offices to check and had thought I was on the right track. I found the baptism's of his last 2 daughter's which confirmed parents' names and occupations, sent for the birth certificate to confirm the marriage, but it didn't. So went back to the beginning again and just wondered if it's possible that the above Joseph could be the right one because his occupation of Engineer matched that of his sibling.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts, they are very much appreciated.

Regards Lou

You may need to check record offices at Stafford, Dudley, Sandwell and Worcester.

As Jonesey has already said. I've got the teeshirt as well.

Can you be sure that the Joseph baptized in 1798 lived long enough to appear on census records please?

Lou,

Again if that Joseph Baker's age was recorded accurately in 1851 then he too could not have been the one baptised in 1798.

Unfortunately it looks as if you may be following the wrong trail once more.

One of the problems associated with trying to follow up people born in that part of the world is that county borders, town borders and registration districts changed about quite a bit. Tipton was only a small place but at different times parts of it came under Dudley, Sedgley, Great Bridge and West Bromwich. Dudley itself was in Staffordshire one minute and Worcester the next. Been there, done that, got the teeshirt.

I can't find their parents in 1861 but I did find this;

William Baker age 17 b 1844
John Baker age 15 b 1846
Elizabeth Baker age 11 b 1850
Joseph A Baker 9 b 1852 All born Tipton living with a family named Stanford;

In 1880 the Baker family were connected to the name Stanford through marriage, although I'm not sure yet if it's this branch of Stanfords

I presume that you may be referring to this chap:

1851
Name: Joseph Baker
Age: 49
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1802
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Elizabeth Baker
Gender: M (Male)
Where born: Sedgley, Staffordshire, England
Civil Parish: Tipton
County/Island: Staffordshire
Country: England
Street Address:

Occupation: Labourer

Condition as to marriage:

Disability:

Registration District: Dudley
Sub-registration District: Tipton

Piece: 2029
Folio: 448
Page Number: 22
Household Members:
Name Age
Joseph Baker 49

If his age recorded in 1851 is accurate he could not have been baptised in 1798.

I have a copy of a baptism of 3 siblings all baptised the same day in 1798. My direct line were all Engineer's so should I take this as a guide line to follow the trail of the other male sibling?

He was Joseph Baker bap 1798 in Dudley. His brother was an Engineer, married in West Bromwich and moved to Tipton. I have now found a Joseph born approx. the same period in Sedgeley but now living in Tipton with the same occupation - Engineer. Do you think this could be my Joseph?

Any ideas or thoughts welcome, as I have followed the wrong Joseph before.
