Geraldine

Geraldine Report 27 Nov 2013 23:17

Hi
Found out that my granparents both died in Livingston Scotland and possible born in Bathgateor Whitburn Scotland. My grandad was a miner all his life and his father before him. The only brother names I have is James and Joseph but no one knows the name of the one who was in the army. These names have been passed down the family. My mother had brothers James, John and Joseph and sisters Elizabeth and Marion. She also had a cousin called Ina Boyle and Hughie Boyle who also came from Bathgate. Also my cousin thinks that the brother who was in the army may have been Grandmothers brother not as I thought my grandfathers. Now trying to find grandmothers maiden name. Thanks for help so far.

Geraldine.

Geraldine,

Was you grandmother Ina, and when and where did she live and die, please?

Geraldine Report 27 Nov 2013 23:04

Hi
I have asked my cousin if she has any family names dates etc that can help. Wish I had the birth certificate. :-( :-(

Geraldine

Geraldine Report 27 Nov 2013 22:54

To Sylvia
Mother was born 10.06.1932. As far as I know the only person who was in the army at the time was her uncle (her dads brother) He met a English girl out therein India and family rumours suggested they had a child out of wedlock and was given to whom became her mother and father as they had recently married.

Hope you can help :-)

'Josephine Joyce' remember! :-)

If Geraldine would just follow up with some of the information requested it could help at least start to sort the family out .............

Potty

Potty Report 27 Nov 2013 13:08

We cannot be sure what Joyce's name at birth was. If the story is true, and she was illegitimate, the birth would have been registered under the mother's name and not Adams. Also, she could have been registered with different first names.

If she was born in India, she must have been brought/sent back to England. Geraldine, do you know the name of the brother who was her supposed father? We may be able to find him coming back to England.

I am currently looking at all the Joyces coming into the country from India but, as I said, her name then might not have been Joyce.

Ina could be short for Georgina. I had an in-law who was named Georgina and was called Ina by her family.

I've not found any marriages for a John Adams to a Georgina but there are many deaths for a Georgina Adams from 1950s to 1980s. It would help if we knew what part of the country the family was from.

JoonieCloonie Report 27 Nov 2013 00:28

Patchem Since no one was finding an Ina marrying an Adams, Shirley enquired whether the name might be Ena (and now maybe Ada), I did the same re Ida ...

also note that there is no death for the name Ina Adams up to 2005 that resembles the details here at all

Winifred Ina born 1904 died 1994 Sussex
Charlotte Ina L born 1906 died 1997 Hertfordshire
Ina Irene born 1915 died 1992 Dorset
Ina Winifred born 1915 died 1994 Yorkshire

and that's the lot.

Geraldine has the info that is needed to sort this marriage out (the names of her mum's brother(s) and sister(s) to find their mother's surname)

so until then ................

but in any case as the story goes, if it is true, Josephine Joyce was not a child of that couple, but I guess the only way to find whether that is true is to find who the couple was

I wonder!

Marriages Mar 1931
Adams John Handley Birmingham S. 6d 29

Handley Ada M Adams Birmingham S. 6d 29

There is a birth for a John Adams mmn Handley 1931

There is a daughter & another son born to the same couple . Look on FreeBMD

Births Jun 1905
Handley Ada Mary Chester le S. 10a 607

Geraldine has 'Ina Adams, 1902' in her tree on here.

So if she were really Ida it does not look like a simple typing error.

She also has John Adams, 1931.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 26 Nov 2013 20:12

I wonder whether Ina could have been Ida.

Ida Chesters was born 1897 in Atherstone (as in the marriage Patchem posted)
and married John F Adams in 1930 in Basford. That fits with 'recently married' in 1932.

problem would be that there don't seem to be births to that marriage ...

that Ida could have died 1996 Nottingham or 1971 Chesterfield ...

Geraldine it really would help if you would give a little more information, especially the question about where in England your parents and grandparents came from or lived.

What would really help is if you would send one of us the information you have about your mum's brothers and sisters, their names and about when and where they were born.

With that info it should be possible to find their mother's surname fairly easily. I will volunteer if you like. :-) Then I would just report the surname back here. (Just click on a name to send a message privately, since the people are living so their details should not be put here on the boards.)

edit, I think we are in the right general area geography wise going by the marriage Patchem posted and Geraldine's birth :-)

Your mums birth isn't listed in the the army births .

If she was illigimate . You said her dad was supposed to have had an affair , the army wouldn't register her birth .

Maybe her birth was registered locally and the note of the army was noted on the back as a ref.

She isn't listed in overseas births either indicating that her birth wasn't reg at the
British consulate .

Who was her dad reputed to be?

patchem

patchem Report 26 Nov 2013 19:30

Is her name definitely 'Ina' not 'Ena'?

patchem

patchem Report 26 Nov 2013 19:25

ADAMS Josephine J EVERITT Atherstone 9c 59
and did your grandparents live and die locally to there?

Hi
Many Thanks to all who responded. I could do with help. My mum is no longer with us and she only has 2 sister and a brother alive who I have no knowledge of how to contact them. My mums name was Josephine Joyce Adams at birth and ~DOB was 10th June 1932. I only got to see her birth certification briefly many years again and never found it when I cleared her property. As far as I know my grandad (her dad) was a miner but his brother was serving in India and family secret was his brother was in the army in india and had an affair where a child was born and my grandparents had recently married so they had the child (my mum). Not sure how true. Her birth certificate had a passage in the back which said something like 'born to the army' Does anyone know what that means? I would also like to know her mothers maiden name. Grandparents John Adams born about 1901 and Ina Adams born about 1902.
