1911 census – John Wellesley-miller 13y pupil

1916 death John Leslie Wellesley-Miller. Son of Edith Wellesley-Miller and the late A Wellesley-Miller

Ancestry Electoral Registers
Edith Wellesley-Miller is listed in many registers. The earliest is 1906 and the latest 1963, being the year she died. Sometimes listed as Edith and sometimes as Edith M.

Whilst researching my families I have found many instances where women were recorded on Electoral Registers prior to your stated dates. What was the source of your information?

Thanks for your reply,i have now found that Katharine was not listed at the address in 1913 Directory,looks like she moved in to the house 1911 as is not listed in 1910. She appears to be someone who moved around Brighton and South coast,she wrote a book on her husband in 1914.

Its unclear what connection she had to Littlehampton,West Sussex where she was buried in 1921 she is not listed as living there unless she was renting a property at the time. Her daughter who looked after her died in 1923.

Maureen, to help in determining which Electoral Registers to look at, Women over 30 with property got the vote in 1918, and all Women over 21 in 1928.
So Nora would have the vote in 1918 if a property-owner, and definitely from 1928 if alive.

I was asked by a friend in France to look for information on her whereabouts after the death of her husband.

It wasn't until I looked more closely,she is a very well documented person.She left her first husband for a famous political Irish man Charles Stewart Parnell and the divorce caused an outcry. They were only married 5 months when he passed away and she then went into decline,had a nervous breakdown.

The names are in a small public tree on Ancestry. There are a number of photos.
Katherine (Kitty) Wood married twice. O'Shea & Parnell.
If the tree owner has it all correct (which we know is not always the case!) her father was a baronet. And daughter's full name was Mary Nora O'Shea.

Catherine was 65 in 1911 and her daughter aged 38yrs, not sure about voting back then I will look it up.

I have been told the address in 1921 was 39 Eastham Road Littlehampton West Sussex and her daughter looked after her so assume it was her who registered death.

I guess I will have to try and contact a record office in Leonards on Sea to see where the local registers are kept.

I doubt that there is anything online.

East Sussex records office most likely have the Electoral Rolls - or should know where they are. Try contacting them.

I have found a family in 1911 census living at

20 East Ascent Street,
Leonards On Sea, East Sussex

Katherine Parnell age 65 and her daughter Nora O'Shea 38.

Is there a way of finding out how long they remained there.I know Katherine died in 1921 at 39 Eastham Road,Littlehampton, Sussex.Would like to find out the whereabouts in the the years since census.
