I was having a look online last night for a birth and found an entry which is registered as a consular return, which I have been informed as being registered at the British consulate. Her father was a minister of religion which could mean he was a missionary. I have no idea where this birth occurred yet but can anyone suggest where I can search to see where he was based

Suggest you buy the birth cert from the GRO for its info

Specify it's an overseas birth and the order adjusts for the GRO ref

Do you need any help in finding the birth ?

Time-scale?

John

John Report 30 May 2014 09:47

I know the year, 1940

ErikaH Report 30 May 2014 10:04

You definitely need to obtain a copy of the birth cert

Too recent for online records..............apart from emigration.

What were the names and birth years of the parents?

John

John Report 30 May 2014 10:39

Margaret Hood Gibson Thomson b1922 and James Innes b1922ish

A tree on Ancestry has Margaret Hood Gibson Thomson born 18 Jan 1912, Glasgow, daughter of Richard Thomson & Margaret Hood Gibson. She married James Innes 7 Aug. 1936, Glasgow and died 2006, Glasgow.

So where does 1922 fit in?

This looks like the family returning to UK:

UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
about Margaret Innes Name: Margaret Innes
Birth Date: 18 Jan 1912
Age: 44
Port of Departure: Southampton, England
Arrival Date: 14 Jan 1957
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Ports of Voyage: Southampton
Ship Name: Camito
Search Ship Database: View the 'Camito' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Shipping line: Messrs Elders and Fyffes Ltd
Official Number: 1971/01

The original is typewritten with many mistakes, James surname doesn't look like Innes but his birthdate is 22 June 1909. There is a Margaret Innes with them born 3 June 1940. Their citizenship is Jamaican, Jamaica being their last permanent residence. They plan to make England their future permanent residence. They're heading to 146 Queen Victoria St., London. His occupation is secretary.

It does seem to be them in the passenger list, they did marry in August 1936, and it's possible that it is my tree on ancestry that the details are listed on

John Report 30 May 2014 12:42

That would be them, 18/01/1912 was Margarets date of birth
