Hello all

I have a friend currently visiting the London from the States, and to cut a long story short, we have discovered his Grandparents although American & Canadian, married in London in 1945.
I have found the marriage record on ANC and FMP looked like it had the newspaper article (Although I cannot get it to load!).

My question as I have no knowledge of London though.... does St Marylebone as a place of marriage mean a church or just the general area? From the record below does it show where they wed then he can go visit?
Thank you for your help and advice :)

Thank you Jax - it looks like it could be if "Place" = the actual church? Do you think it does mean that??

:)

St Marylebone is a place/area of London ,,,,,it is next to Paddington,,,,one runs into the other.

thank you Kay, so the transcript saying PLACE and PARISH - St Marylebone could both refer to place do you think? Or could one be the church name in the Parish? Which they had added a word like "church!" haha

You've posted a copy of the transcript for the marriage. As it gives the actual date, its likely to have been copied from the parish records for the Church of St Marylebone.

Although I'm trying to load the associated image, the little wheel is going around and round and round and round......... :-|

Already reported the image as not loading on FMP as I have had several attempts at it.

I reported it too as got the wheel spinning :/
Makes sense with you saying the actual date could refer to the church record

Thanks detective and glitter baby :)

GB - it must be the Brighsolid servers - I'd tried via GR.

Anyway - without information to the contrary, I'd assume it was the actual church...which gave its name to the area

The marriage may have taken place at Christ Church in St Marylebone but the governing body is The Parish Church St Marlybone which is a grand formal building,,,,,Christ Church records from 1822 to 1974 are held at London Metropolitian Archives of which Ancestry/FMP have transcripts of.

I've just tried viewing this record on FMP and found if you click on view full page transcription the record appears.

Leyther I think St Marylebone Church is near Baker Street underground station.

The above is from FreeBMD.org.

If you order marriage cert. from GRO this will give you exact location of marriage - i.e which church or register office. Marylebone merely refers to an area of London.

JenPen

The cert does not need to be purchased...it can be viewed on FMP and GR, when they get their servers working

Hello again. Oh right. Will it definitely be there then? That sounds good and saves a bit of money. But thank you all again for your kind help :)
