Hahahah I,ve looked many times so unless I,m mad its an almost impossible task. And I have never found any online but it does say they are there.

Not laughting at you just the fact that I,ve spent so much time looking for a set of my rellies and never had any luck

You must only get the certificate from GRO at approx 10.00 take about a week
Do come back when you have it. It will also give approx (hopefully) age of alfred and cicely then hopefully we can find the census of 1911 and 1900 ...

I also looked for the BANNs which the churches in the country hold sometimes the London ones are online but no luck.

You never know others on here later may have more luck

Divorce records on National Archives go up to 1937 but I can't see anything on there for them. Perhaps it hadn't gone through by then - they usually took a lot longer in those days.

Unfortunately, their 1921 marriage isn't on the parish records on Ancestry so it looks like the certificate is going to be the way to go.

The certificates cost £9.25 from GRO

Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about him except his name and his marriage to Cicely. It looks like I will have to send for the marriage certificate to be able to find out anything more. Do you know where one can find divorce records? Thanks so much for your help.

yes I found it on the electrol roll

Yes a marriage certificate gives fathers of groom and bride on the certificate and without some of these you are never sure that the info you have is correct

I will take another look at electrol roll on ancestry to see if it gives any info later

Hi Kempina. Did you find the Acre Lane info from electoral rolls? I spent ages on that but got no results. If Alfred was still there in 1929 that would have been when my mother was 6. I have tried to find a record of the divorce but without success. The Ronald Hedden who lived next door would have been one of Cicely's 5 brothers. I am not new to genes or ancestry but have never needed a marriage certificate before so didn't realise it gave fathers names. I know everything about Cicely's family but nothing at all about Alfred and his background and there is no one left alive to ask.

In 1929 they lived at 32 Acre lane SW2 next door to Louia and Ronald Hedden

I am trying to find out something about my maternal grandfather. His name was Alfred Adams and he married my grandmother Cicely Hedden in London in 1921. They had 2 children, Leslie and Marjorie who was my mother. As far as I know they divorced when my mother was about 8. They lived in London and I assume Alfred's parents must have lived fairly close as she saw them quite often. Unfortunately she only knew them as Grandma and Grandad so I do not know their first names. Cicely's parents were Albert John Hedden 1872-1944 and Harriet Ellen Richards 1874 -1946. Cicely's birth and death dates were 1898-1980. I know absolutely nothing else about Alfred and Alfred Adams is quite a common name. Can anyone help please? Thankyou
