Familytree maker - computer help needed please!

I have to replace my computer and I am trying to put my Familytreemaker file into a stick (I think that's what it's called). The "copy" option is not available (greyed out), so I tried the back-up option, but it says "back-up" failed.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do please (in fairly simple terms!)?

Thank you! I have saved the page because I don't have the new computer yet, but this is a great help.

The article does go on a bit about converting from PC to MAC but should cover the essential steps for you if you skip the conversion bits.

Before you can import your data onto your new PC you will first need to install the actual FTM program onto the new PC.. Presumably you still have the original disc for this? You also need to ensure that the FTM version you have is compatible with the new computers operating system.

Once you have done that you can copy your tree data across. In simple terms the steps are:-

Create backup file on old pc.
Copy backup file to stick
Copy backup file from stick to hard drive on new pc
Import file to program on new pc.
