Although I have also put this on the Ireland thread, some of you may find this useful.

Above site became available on 3 Jul 2014.
It contains improved GRO indexes to those currently available on FS or on Ancestry.
For births from 1900 onwards, the mother's maiden name is included.
Many births and marriages have the actual dates.
It may be worth referring to this link first, which provides a bit more info on the updated site.

I used it to find exact DOBs and marriage dates for my families who appear on the 1911 Irish census returns!

Thanks for the link, GlasgowLass - has helped prove a few "educated" guesses for my relations.

Thanks for that, GL - the mum's Maiden Surname confirmed my guesses of my m-i-l's cousins were correct - most helpful.

Thanks from me too - it gave me the exact birth dates of 8 of my Nan's siblings, and confirmed the existence of 3 of them that were born after the 1911 census as it gave the mother's maiden name. As it was a common surname and my mother wasn't sure about forenames or dates (just that there were 6 boys and 4 girls) it hadn't been possible to identify them readily before this.

Didn't help that the daughter my mother insisted was the eldest, turned out to be the youngest!

The site has been taken down after just 3 weeks :-( :-( :-(
I must admit,I was quite surprised about the mother's maiden name being included in recent birth records.
