I received access to a tree which I had not asked for.
It was available from the dropdown "Family Trees" in the top header bar.

I received an invitation once but not needed as I too subscribed maybe she thought the tree was private or thought I was not a subscriber?

I do the same as Alan for two private trees. On one I just have viewing rights. On the other I have editorial rights. So have you tried clicking that box?

I don't know about public trees. But presume an invitation, if granting editorial rights, means that you would be able to see data on all the living folk? Else I see no point in issuing an invitation, as all members can view a public tree.

DazedConfused

I did say in OP that I had a sub :-)

I do not think the tree can be a "Private" one as I found the link on a Public one !

The e-mail invites you to "click here" for access and then you get "Register" and clicking on that brings "page unavailable"

Shall just do as Alan suggests and use the Public one :-)

Thank you all for your comments

A silly question I know, but you are an Ancestry member?

I have seen messages on FB about giving people access to their trees both on here and Ancestry stating that people do not need to be members!!!!

As I said may be a silly question.... :-D

I have access to a private tree on Ancestry and all I have to do is click on Family Trees second box along at the top of the page.

Perhaps you should ask the question of Ancestry?
